Director of Development
SUMMARY
The Director of Development will be responsible for supporting the company’s $1.2 million budget by securing and growing financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government sources to sustain and expand 1st Stage’s mission and programs. This role requires a passionate advocate for the arts with a proven track record in fundraising, strategic planning, and community relations. This is a full-time position that reports to the Managing Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising Strategy & Leadership
Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet annual and long-term revenue goals. Previous years’ fundraising plans are available for review and guidance.
Lead all aspects of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, including major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, and special campaigns. Currently, 1st Stage has raised 75% toward meeting its comprehensive three-year Furthering our Future campaign goal of $4 Million by June 30, 2027.
Identify, engage, and build relationships with new and existing donors, sponsors, partners, and volunteers.
Grant Writing & Reporting
Work with Managing Director and Connectivity Director to research and apply for grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. 1st Stage has a robust existing portfolio of proposals.
Work with Managing Director and Connectivity Director to prepare compelling proposals and reports that align with funders’ priorities and demonstrate the impact of 1st Stage’s programs.
Community Engagement & Events
Plan and execute fundraising events, including special events, donor receptions, and community outreach initiatives.
Represent 1st Stage at community events, fostering relationships with local organizations, businesses, and civic leaders.
Team Collaboration & Administration
Work closely with the Artistic Director, Managing Director, Marketing Director, and Board of Directors to align fundraising efforts with organizational goals.
Support Board Development Committee, assisting and working closely with the Committee Chair as well as board and community members.
Manage donor databases, track contributions, and ensure accurate reporting and acknowledgment.
Supervise support staff and volunteers, providing guidance and support to achieve fundraising objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills, with sharp attention to detail and proofreading.
Able to prioritize and manage multiple, concurrent projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and experience building and maintaining respectful internal and external relationships.
A creative, strategic thinker and motivated self-starter who can work independently.
Strong management skills with an ability to guide, mentor, and advocate for the team—providing training and performance management as needed.
An exceptional leader and collaborator with an ability to engage with a wide range of people, and demonstrated success in motivating, directing, and managing staff and volunteers, as well as experience in managing up.
Willingness and ability to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theatre, which includes a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary: $62,500 per year
