JUST NEIGHBORS

NOVA FRIENDS OF REFUGEES/ONE JOURNEY

NOVA Friends of Refugees connects people and organizations working to welcome refugees to their new home in Northern Virginia and assist them with resettlement. Our network shares information about events, news, alerts and volunteer opportunities related to refugee issues and support. We focus on three areas:

* Advocacy – make our welcoming voices heard by elected officials

* Life-Skills and Integration Program – support existing refugee life skills training through volunteering

* Community Events – organize community events to bridge cultural gaps and welcome refugees

One Journey Festival celebrates the talents, stories and contributions of refugees and other displaced people around the world. This family-friendly festival brings people together through our modern-day shared languages of humanity: art, food, music, dance, storytelling, soccer, fashion, and technology.

BREAST CARE FOR WASHINGTON DC

Our mission is to reduce breast cancer mortality in the metro Washington, DC area by promoting access to breast cancer screenings, diagnostics, and referrals for treatment to all, regardless of their ability to pay.

Breast Care for Washington is uniquely positioned to impact women’s access to breast cancer screening in the District of Columbia. Our operations were specifically designed to overcome current barriers that prevent low-income, medically underserved women from receiving high quality breast care. Our location in Ward 8 brings services to patient population that previously was hampered from receiving care because of distance to providers and a lack of transportation options.

Second Story transforms the lives of children, youth and their families by providing safe havens and opportunities for them to grow and thrive. Our programs provide support at critical turning points in their lives.

HOPE FOR GRIEVING FAMILIES

Our mission is to support and connect grieving families with children in the Greater DC area. We are different from other grief support organizations as we focus on providing fun, family-oriented events, as well as a network of support for families who have experienced a loss of a close family member. We also help connect families with agencies that provide grief counseling and professional services.

We are adding fun events all the time for your family to meet and connect with other families who also have suffered a loss.  We WELCOME you and your children to join us for fun-filled experiences!
